The Yorktown Onion, a tourist favourite, did not originate here in this country. There are several theories of how it began to grow here but none are documented as official. One theory is that during the Revolutionary War crop seeds and the onion seeds somehow were mixed together accidentally. Regardless of its origin, it has become a fun subject to photograph and turn into art for the tourists. Since, picking the onion and taking it home it is against the law, Yorktown Onion souvenirs via local artists is a tourists’ best option. Virginia Charm and other local artists offer Yorktown Onion artwork and souvenirs at York Hall. (Click on pictures for better resolution)
